How To Design a Banner

30/09/2011 Posted by ABC Author

You need to design a banner for your business, organization or event. But how? We have 25 years of experience in banner design and we want to share our knowledge with you. Plus, find out how to design a banner online – absolutely free!

Design a banner like an expert

It’s easy to design a banner if you know what tricks graphic designers use.

Color contrast: Your message will stand out better if the text and background of your banner are in highly contrasting colors.

Letter size: When you design a banner, the size of your letters should be determined before the size of your banner is. Using simple information, such as the distance from which you’d like your message to be visible, you can calculate the appropriate size for your letters with our letter sizing calculator.

Graphics: It’s a fact that if you design a banner with at least one graphic, more people will read it.

Optical center: When you design a banner, you don’t want your text and graphic to be in the exact center of the banner. Instead, you want your message to be in the optical center of your banner, which is four percent higher than the actual center. It may not sound like much of a difference, but banners and signs that don’t place elements in the optical center look extremely awkward and odd.

To check out even more design tips, you can read our Baker’s Dozen e-book. (James – needs to link to e-book squeeze page)

But we’re not going to make you sit down with a sketch pad to design a banner.

We have three custom online tools that you can use – FREE – to design a banner:

LiveDesign lets you design a banner online with one of our in-house graphic designers. First, you make an appointment with a designer. When you launch the program at the time of your appointment, you are automatically connected with either Matthew or Nicole, our expert graphic designers.

They will begin to design a banner for you from scratch and as they do, you will see what they’re doing on your screen. You can even give them real-time feedback so you’re sure to get the design you want!

SignMagic is a program that you use by yourself to design a banner online. Simply launch the program and begin designing. The intuitive program lets you choose the background color, fonts, letter colors, graphics and more for your banner.

Use your imagination to create your design! It’s super easy to use and when you’re done, simply follow the instructions to upload your design to us and we’ll begin creating it!

DesignExpress is the fastest, simplest way to design a banner online. If you already have your entire banner completely designed, just upload and we’ll get to work building it.

Or if you have part of your banner designed, you’ll begin by uploading that (let’s say it’s your business logo). Then, simply select a few options and type in any specific instructions you have (such as the text you want, white text on blue background and text at bottom) and we’ll design a banner based on those specifications. Once we’ve come up with a great design, we’ll email you the proof. If it’s not quite what you imagined, we’ll redo it until it is!

And remember, all of these programs are absolutely free to use. After you upload your completed design, we’ll send you a proof to look over. We won’t begin building your banner until you’ve approved the design!

Oh, we’ll also ship your banner for free. And wave your sales tax.

So go ahead and design a banner!
