I have been working with a group helping unemployed at our church (Faithworks) and something came up which is a good point for older workers seeking employment. In the USA the average time in a job, ESPECIALLY AMONG YOUNGER HIRES is 2-4 years to 3-5 years!
How much does that cost a company?
Hiring an experienced 40+ man or woman gives you a person WITH EXPERIENCE and also someone who will probably stick around for as many as 7-10 years.
Offsets any of the “older employee costs” by a long shot.
Also, American companies especially are taking advantage of labor laws by surreptitiously requiring exempt employees (not covered by federal and most state employee rules) to work ungodly hours. that’s where they are…
